Verification · operator guide

Verifier readiness is a daily operating condition, not an event.

MPI describes verification as an independent check that the business is selling safe food and following good food-safety practices. The strongest preparation is therefore consistent execution of the Food Control Plan, with records and corrective actions that are easy to retrieve.

✓

Follow the plan

The verifier is checking whether the registered Food Control Plan is being followed effectively in practice.

▤

Keep the required records

Records should be current, attributable and easy to retrieve rather than reconstructed before the visit.

△

Show how problems were handled

Failed checks and exceptions should lead to documented action and close-out, not disappear into separate notes.

Before verification

Test your own evidence path.

  • Pick a common request: a temperature record, delivery check, cleaning control or corrective action.
  • Retrieve it quickly: confirm the record can be found without relying on one person’s memory.
  • Trace the exception: if a check failed, verify the action and outcome are linked.
  • Check plan alignment: make sure the records being kept still match the current registered plan.
  • Brief the team: staff should understand the controls they perform and where evidence is kept.

Who verifies the business?

MPI states that verification may be carried out by a local council or an appropriately recognised independent verifier depending on the type of plan, registration and operation. The business should confirm its verifier requirements through MPI and the relevant registration authority.

CSA positioning

CSA FSMS supports the operating and evidence layer around a Food Control Plan. It does not register, approve or verify the plan and does not replace advice from MPI, a registration authority or recognised verifier.
