Hyderabad Food Safety Inspections 2026: What TG SAFE Is Finding
Hyderabad is currently one of the clearest examples of sustained food-safety enforcement in South India. For restaurant and hotel operators, the useful signal is the pattern behind the actions: hygiene and pest failures are being found alongside licence problems, storage failures and missing supporting records.
The enforcement activity is sustained, not isolated
Telangana's food-safety authority, TG SAFE, has carried out repeated restaurant, hotel and food-business inspections through September and October 2026. Actions reported by the authority and local media include immediate closures, FSSAI licence suspensions, show-cause notices, improvement notices, food seizures and follow-up inspections.
On 29 October, inspections of 16 sweet-manufacturing and retail units in Hyderabad resulted in licence suspensions and closure orders. Earlier October actions covered restaurants, canteens and highway hotels in Hyderabad and neighbouring districts.
Recurring failures being reported
| Theme | Examples reported during recent inspections | Operator control |
|---|---|---|
| Licence status | No valid FSSAI licence, expired licence or incorrect licence category. | Verify validity, category and activity against the actual operation. |
| Pest activity | Cockroaches, rodents, rat droppings, houseflies and infestation in storage areas. | Preventive pest programme, service records, trend review and corrective action. |
| Storage | Improper segregation, raw meat alongside other foods, poor temperature control, expired or spoiled items. | Storage map, segregation rules, date/label control and routine manager checks. |
| Premises hygiene | Greasy walls/exhausts, dirty utensils, clogged drains, damaged floors and unhygienic washing areas. | Cleaning schedules, deep-clean plans, maintenance escalation and verification. |
| Food-handler hygiene | Missing hairnets, gloves/protective clothing and poor personal-hygiene practices. | Daily hygiene checks, supervision, training and illness controls. |
| Mandatory/supporting records | Missing pest-control records, food-handler health records and water-analysis reports. | Document register with owners, expiry/review dates and retrieval controls. |
Why the record findings matter
A number of the reported observations are physical and need physical correction. But repeated references to missing pest-control, employee-health and water-analysis records show why inspection readiness cannot be reduced to a clean kitchen on the day. The operator has to manage current supporting documents and be able to produce them.
What Hyderabad operators should review now
- Confirm the FSSAI licence is valid and the business/category details match the actual operation.
- Conduct a pest and premises walk-through with senior management, not only the pest contractor.
- Review refrigeration, segregation, labelling, expiry and leftover-food controls.
- Check that water-analysis, pest-control and food-handler health/training records are current.
- Review the previous four weeks of failed checks and confirm every failure has a corrective action and closure.
